Power Of The Press

National Center for Missing Adults CEO Kym Pasqualini spent $250,000 to find missing people after Hurricane Katrina, but, when the recession hit, she found herself short on funds. Pasqualini closed the Phoenix-based organization’s doors and stored case files filled with personal information and other items in a self-storage facility. She sold her house and spent her personal savings to pay the bills; however, she still owed $3,800 to the storage facility.

When the contents of her two rented units were scheduled for auction, Pasqualini turned to the local CBS affiliate for help. The station aired her story on the local news the night before the auction, and the facility manager canceled the auction and worked out a deal to allow her to retrieve everything in her storage units including the case files.
