Cat Survives Confinement In Storage Container

A military couple in Hawaii packed up to move back to the mainland, but they left behind their two-year-old cat who wandered away on moving day. When the new couple who moved into the house rented a storage container, they had no idea they were packing up a stowaway.

The container was stored at the PODS (Portable On Demand Storage) facility where, several weeks later, operations manager Craig Watson heard a cat meowing. “I could see the cat was locked inside the POD, and the weather strip under the door was eaten,” says Watson. “We pried the door open and lured the cat out with food and water.”

The Hawaii Humane Society transferred the cat to a local clinic where veterinarians donated their services. Although she was skinny and had some worms and fleas, the little cat appears to have survived her confinement with no damage to her kidneys or other serious injuries. Dr. Matt Belcher of the Cat Clinic says, “Despite what she’s been through, she’s very personable.”
