21st Century Storage
Philadelphia, PA

Looking over the list of Tammy Mackey’s accomplishments, you might assume that the General Manager of 21st Century Storage in Philadelphia is running a facility that is a longtime fixture in the local market. In fact, the first “green” facility in Philadelphia opened in August 2008. But in those few months, Mackey has combined her considerable marketing with her even more substantial community spirit to build a solid customer base that spans multiple generations.

Volunteering with kids at the Ronald McDonald House and Philadelphia Children’s Hospital gives Mackey an opportunity to show them how to decorate blank newsprint to make disposable tablecloths or turn a plain brown box into a personalized toy box. Parents are given coupons for a free box and offered discounts on storage while they relocate to be with their children.

College students benefit from the facility’s designation as the exclusive storage provider for local universities. Mackey even sends the facility’s moving truck to pick up students and their belongings. Her “guerilla marketing” includes food drives, collecting for Toys for Tots, donating to the local SPCA, recycling programs, working with local churches, and many other community-based initiatives. She is also a Notary Public and has become an approved shipper for the U.S. Postal Service.

Heather Gentry, marketing director for 21st Century Storage admires Mackey’s creativity and drive. “Tammy is meeting or beating her rental proformas since she opened. She has not missed a target yet.” Gentry adds, “She truly cares about the success of her facility. We hope she can inspire others out there to do the same.”
