Hawaii Facility Sued Over Mold Damage
Alexis Anderson Wooten and her mother rented space in November 2007 at Aloha Self Storage in Kapolei, a community in Honolulu County. When they came back to retrieve their possessions in September 2009, they were shocked to discover rainbow-colored mold covering everything in their 10-by-10 storage unit. A specialist determined that the mold was toxic.
Ms. Anderson Wooten claims that they were never notified about a roof leak that occurred at the facility in January 2008 and the company continued to accept their payments of $277 a month for nearly two years. After the discovery of the mold, facility management acknowledged the leak in an e-mail to Ms. Anderson Wooten. The two women have filed suit against Aloha Island Self Storage and are seeking approximately $60,000 in damages.
