Mike Wood Donates $9.2 Million For Children’s Home

Hawaii Self Storage’s co-owner Mike Wood announced plans for the first-ever children’s receiving home on Oahu, Ho‘omalu O Na Kamali‘i, which means “safe haven for our children.” This new home will be a secure and temporary place where brothers and sisters can stay together while Child Welfare Services social workers investigate reports of alleged child abuse or neglect. Wood donated $1 million to the state in 2007 to kick-start the development of the home.

Wood is donating another $200,000 for furnishings, fixtures, and equipment. He will also donate another $8 million over the next 20 years to assist in operating costs. Ho‘omalu O Na Kamali‘i, which will care for up to 300 kids a year, is expected to open its doors early next year.
